I’ve felt on the outside in my life. As a pansexual cis woman I often feel there is no room for me in the 2SLGBTQIA+ alphabet soup of the queer movement. But it isn’t about me. I can hide in plain sight — no one need know my sexuality, and my gender isn’t in question. I am white and I am safer than most people in the world.
Pride Month isn’t just one big celebration. It’s a riot. It’s a protest. It’s a wide swath of the citizens of the world coming together to say enough is enough. Stop murdering our youth with your unjustified policies. Stop marginalizing queer and trans people until the margins squeeze them out.
Love is love.
This month is a time to reflect on those in your life who identify as queer, and what it means to vote in a government that doesn’t recognize them as human. It’s time to take notice if your church is truly open to all, or just to those who conform to the standard white-washed “norm”.
As a card-carrying member of the Queer Community, I know it might turn some people off to see such open representation by a Wholistic Life Mentor but it is very important to me that I maintain my integrity in all that I do and queerness is part of my identity, and the identity of very many people who I love. If you can’t accept this part of me, you can’t accept any of me. I will be here to stand in the path of anyone who disparages or denies the basic human rights to a person based on their gender or sexuality. We are here and we are queer! And we aren’t going anywhere any time soon.
